Home is where
my heart is.

How blessed are we to live in a community of picturesque neighborhoods with homes and lawns and gardens that are well-maintained? Where people take pride in their homes? I find so much joy in living in a town where there are great parks and public spaces with fountains or public art and even parks for our dogs.

Homes that Cook

When Lettiann Southerland first arrived in Kansas City, she was desperately homesick. Leaving her home and family in Pennsylvania was a little more difficult than she believed it would be. Like many of us who have faced relocation away from our roots, she missed the family dinners, the wine and appetizers under the grape arbor, the laughter and the closeness…

Legacy Flooring

Mike Eddings and his staff could show you thousands of tile choices if you’re so inclined. But they’d rather not do that. They’d rather listen first, so they can understand what you need and what you want your space to look like. Then they’ll show you products and photos of previous projects, and walk you through the steps necessary to…

A Monumental Feat

When asked why they would climb a tall mountain, some folks may simply respond, “Because it’s there.” However, a handful of dedicated athletes who conquered Colorado’s Leadville Trail Marathon this past June had a more purposeful response: To educate the public on military suicide. To that end, they certainly had a mountain to conquer, but all they had to do…

The Lexus RC 350 is a High-Styled Sport Coupe

The 2015 Lexus RC 350’s 306-horsepower V-6 delivers a satisfying kick in the pants, the handsomely proportioned coupe body exudes performance and the cockpit-style interior surrounds you with comfort. But the “spindle” grille that looks a bit like a scowling catfish leaves me cold.

Purging Closets, Organizing Lives

The number one mistake Eliza Cantlay sees is people “throwing a bunch of pretty containers at a pile of clutter and expecting this to automatically organize things. Instead, start by getting rid of as much as you can, then organize what deserves to stick around.”

Area Company is Changing the Landscape of Lawns

Angela Grego, owner of Summit Flooring and Turf, knows what it’s like to take a gamble. During the height of the recession, she left an established career and headed for ‘greener’ pasture; literally. “My husband Kirk saw a need in the Midwest for synthetic grass, and once I met the family behind the brand of SYNLawn, it became an easy…

A Touch of Classic Elegance

Getting this Overland Park home into enviable shape required a keen focus on attention to detail while simultaneously painting the bigger picture. To those of us who can rattle off the phone number of the first home they lived in, (Willow2-1604) the pull of memory can be powerful and bittersweet. It can shape all our future place wishes, and rarely fades with time.
