Barbecue has been a family tradition for father and son owners Doug and Dean Brobeck, who have been making their life-changing barbecue for over 25 years. Doug started out competing on the barbecue circuit in the 1980s where he won multiple awards, which lead to the opening of Stilwell Smokehouse in 1992. It closed in 2004. In 2007, Doug opened Brobecks BBQ in Overland Park with his son, Dean.
There’s no shortage of barbecue in the greater Kansas City area, but there’s a reason this barbecue restaurant stands out among the rest.
“The restaurant portrays a small-town atmosphere in the big city with a focus on great service and incredible barbecue,” Doug says. “We prep all of our barbecue with our own custom rub and slow smoke all of our meats. We serve all of our meats dry without sauce and provide our customers with many different options of barbecue sauce to choose from.”
Sauces include a wide variety of local KC favorites and their two custom sauces, Carolina mustard and house barbecue. Many sauce lovers that cover their meal at other barbecue restaurants find very little sauce is needed, if any at all, at Brobecks. By focusing on the quality of the smoked meat versus just the flavor of barbecue sauce, you’re guaranteed the best in the Midwest.
Brobecks is known for mouthwatering burnt ends, smoked ribs, and pulled pork, but don’t leave without trying their famous ham salad dip.
“We sell several hundred pounds a week of ham salad alone as an appetizer dip, as a sandwich or accompanying any of our other meat options,” Doug says
Lunch and dinner specials, which include which include smoked salmon, burnt end stew, smoked pork chops and smoked jumbo shrimp, are also a must-try.
Finish your meal on a sweet note with carrot cake, chocolate cake or brownies made from scratch by Golden Boy, a local dessert company. All options can be topped with vanilla ice cream.
Cater your next event and amaze your guests with Brobecks. They make hosting hassle-free by delivering and arranging everything in a buffet setup. Base packages include two or three sliced meats and side dishes as well as your choice of bread and buns, house sauces and pickles. Choose between beef brisket, pulled pork, turkey, ham, ham salad, Polish sausage, or smokey Joe, which is a barbecue version of a sloppy Joe.
