Micah LaCerte, Owner of Hitch Fit Gym, talked to us about what it takes to begin the process of making healthier choices.

What are some initial changes that can be made for someone wanting to get in shape and make healthy lifestyle choices?

The first step is making sure you are ready to make the changes needed to get in great shape.  Wanting change means being willing to make change. For instance, if you set goals of getting in the best shape of your life and expect the results without working hard and eating right, then you will not be successful. You did not get out of shape overnight, so you cannot expect to get in good shape overnight either.

For our readers who are starting from square one, what suggestions do you have for them to start the transformation process?

The first thing I would ask is are you needing help during the process, or are you planning on doing it on your own?  If you need extra accountability and need the guidance, then finding a great trainer would be the route you would want to go.  If you plan on doing things on your own, then you need to focus on 3 main things.

#1 Cardio- Cardio is crucial when it comes to increasing your overall endurance, helping with fat loss, Heart health and Increased Metabolism.

#2 Strength Training- Strength Training is crucial because it will help you maintain or build muscle, it will help you increase strength and can also help you burn fat.

#3 Nutrition- Without this component in place your hard work with strength training and cardio will not be as effective.  You simply cannot outwork poor nutrition.  So eat 4-6 smaller and balanced meals per day.  Try eating every 2-3 hours you are awake but meals that do not 100% get you to the point of being full.  Lean proteins, Healthy Fats and good Complex Carbs.

What role does nutrition 
make in transforming your 
body and health?

Nutrition is the biggest factor when trying to feel and look your best.  It also plays a huge role in improving your overall health.  I would say it makes up 80% of the formula as it makes up the biggest portion of your day, so it comes down to all the choices you make with nutrition that will end up determining if you will be successful or not.  The key is to prepare in advance, get the bad foods out of your home, and replace them with lean proteins, good complex carbs and healthy fats.  Also drink at least 80-120 ounces of water per day.

How does one realistically make the transformation to a healthy lifestyle of eating right and exercising regularly with a busy, on the go schedule?

One of the biggest concerns I hear is that people are worried about how they are going to fit everything in with a busy schedule of work and kids.  What I will tell you is that we are all busy-waking up early, working hard all day, and having lots of responsibilities. What we cannot do is make excuses that end up holding us back.  We make time for the things that matter to us.  It is as simple as that.  If you being healthy and fit matters then you will do what it takes to get there.  Once you make this lifestyle a top priority, everything else falls into place.   My advice to you is GO FOR IT, You are Worth it and it will change your life for the better!! or
