Chez Elle Creperie and Coffeehouse Brings Parisian-
Inspired Cuisine to Eclectic Neighborhood

Nestled among shady tree-lined streets, amid architecture that blends 1900s turn-of-the-century houses and repurposed modern residences, you’ll find Chez Elle Creperie and Coffeehouse, opened in 2009 by owner Ellen Trakas, in the former Summit Theatre located at 1713 Summit.

“My husband and I fell in love with the area,” Ellen says of the streets “where artisan bread, vegetarian fare, icy treats, Mexican food, farm-to-table dining and other culinary gems are clustered in a two-block eclectic, hip area.”

While the outside is reminiscent of the neighborhood movie house that opened in 1913, inside you’ll find a Parisian-inspired hot spot full of “gloriously plump sweet and savory crepes, mugs of steamed lattes and cappuccinos, glasses of French wine, salads, soups, pastries and a bubbly personality.”

“But,” Ellen says, “it’s Chez Elle’s patrons that give the café its joie de vivre.”

With a menu featuring crepes such as the Tour Eiffel — smoked salmon, capers, caramelized onion, artichokes, herbed cream cheese and creme fraiche — the Patriote — strawberries, blueberries and bananas topped with creme Anglaise, whipped cream and raspberry sauce — and the Monsieur — spicy chorizo, seasoned potatoes, gravy and scrambled eggs — the creperie and coffeehouse serves up fare for anyone’s liking, all with an eco-friendly flair.

“We use biodegradable products from Berlau Paper House and recycle our paper and glass,” Ellen says. The restaurant also offers gluten-free and vegan batters.

Regardless of your food preferences, you’re likely to find a favorite crepe at Chez Elle.

“Patrons have many different favorites depending on their tastes,” Ellen says. “Some prefer theirs filled with spinach, artichokes, caramelized onions and sauteed mushrooms, while others prefer the sweeter ones filled with house-made custards, creams and mousse.”
