The Johnson County Museum recently hosted its fundraiser, Yesterday’s Tomorrow, at the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College. The event’s Honorary Chairs were retired U.S. Representative Dennis Moore and his wife Stephene. The presenting sponsors were Kansas City Power and Light and Ben Craig. The event featured a dinner, entertainment, silent and live auctions, and special guest Bill Owens, a renowned fine art photographer. He spoke about his groundbreaking series “Suburbia,” capturing everyday suburban life in northern California during the Vietnam War era. Live auction items included fine art pieces by photographers Owens, Byron Darby, Art Miller and Travis Shaffer, as well as a political cartoon by Johnson County’s own Bob Bliss and a basketball autographed by Bill Self. Proceeds from the event will support the museum’s operations and future vision as it expands to become The National Museum of Suburbia and Suburban Policy Forum.
